Carey Southwell
Ms. Southwell brings 12 years of non-profit administration and fund raising experience to the Boulder County Arts Alliance (BCAA). She served as Executive Director of the Denver Firefighters Museum for three years. She has also worked as Curator of the Golden Pioneer Museum and the Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave respectively from 1995 to 2001.
In addition, she has served on several local and regional non-profit boards. She is currently Secretary to the Board of the Mountain Plains Museums Association, a position she has held for the past 4 years. She has also served on the Colorado/Wyoming Association of Museums board and is the past president of the Association for Northern Front Range Museums. In this capacity she was responsible for implementing a professional development component for the organization.
Carey has been a grant reviewer for the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Colorado Historical Fund. A native of Colorado, she holds an MA in Liberal Arts from the University of Colorado with an emphasis in Museum Studies. She has been a regular presenter at local and regional Museum Association meetings and has written and presented papers on topics ranging from small museum management to fundraising.
Charlotte LaSasso
Charlotte LaSasso joined the staff as the Communications Assistant in February 2004 and was promoted to Communications Coordinator in February 2005 and Communications Director in January 2008. Her regular duties include processing memberships, workshop registrations, and grant and exhibit applications; writing and sending press releases, monthly email newsletter, and thrice-annual print newsletter; updating the website; updating program information; and assisting with other communications activities. Recently Charlotte's responsibilities expanded to include oversight of the BCAA website redesign and creation of a collaborative web-based arts event submission and extraction process. Throughout 2007 and 2008 Charlotte will be implementing the Multicultural Competency and Inclusiveness Initiative funded by the Boulder Arts Commission. Currently, Charlotte also works as the Publications Coordinator and Subscription/Circulation Manager for a national non-profit organization. Charlotte is an installation artist, working in a variety of media, most recently exhibiting at the Boulder Public Library Canyon Gallery.
Our Volunteers
BCAA's many accomplishments would not have been possible without the wonderful people behind the scenes providing valuable time and expertise. We are proud of the high level of service that we provide to our members and the community with an active, dedicated and creative Volunteer Corps which logs over 2,000 hours annually. In 2003, BCAA inaugurated a Volunteer of the Year award to acknowledge and show our appreciation to a volunteer who provided extraordinary service to the organzation. Recipients include:
