Transformation - A journey of self-discovery, Monotypes

The prints in this series are monotypes. The layering of colors creates depth like the infinite layering of emotions of the self. The various combinations of the generic butterfly wing and the Chinese kite motif signify my journey. It is a flight, like the butterfly with all its transformations, finding a balanced existence between my two worlds.

 

Like a butterfly leaving the cocoon in its new form, one leaves the safety of the family, and embarks on a journey of self-discovery, ever changing and unpredictable. Like a butterfly's flight, one dances through life, joyous and woeful.

Change and transformation are inevitable for us all. Coming from Taiwan as a teenager to America has been a colorful journey. The west offers total individual freedom yet the eastern upbringing questions ones intentions. I am a product of east meets west. I have the best of both worlds, yet, struggles with clashes of the two cultures.
