Maren Waldman, Moving Joy Studios
Dancer will receive $500 from the Community Arts Fund

After a thorough review of 11 exciting proposals, panelists selected Maren Waldman as the recipient of the Community Arts Fund.  The funds will cover lead artist fees for two dance/nature workshops offered to seniors living in low-income residences in Boulder County. Her Postcards to the Earth workshop uses movement, time in nature, reflection, and crafting to develop and enrich relationships with self, earth, and other.

Thank you again to the support of individual donors and Boulder Body Wear for making the Community Arts Fund possible!  You can donate to the Fund here.

Who's in the Limelight?

Devin Patrick Hughes, Music Director and Conductor
Boulder Symphony

Devin Patrick Hughes has been recognized for his exhilarating score interpretations, advocation for music accessibility, innate passion with spiritual curiosity and entrepreneurial vigor. Under his baton, Boulder Symphony has soared to new artistic heights and become a centralized hub for community-wide outreach and education initiatives, major collaborations, operatic performances, and premieres of exciting new music.

One of Maestro Hughes' greatest passions is bringing Classical Music to the masses and inspiring and educating kids, who will carry on its legacy. Devin can often be found visiting schools throughout the Denver and Boulder areas teaching and inspiring the next generation of musicians.

"Everyone really loves classical music,” says Hughes. "They just don't know it yet. If they don't love it, they haven't experienced it under the right circumstances. The symphony is more than just an orchestra; it poses a global model of cooperation. A musician must adjust their belief system and values to serve the greater whole of the orchestra. No one person is more important than another and the cooperation creates a magical, effortless sounding event that inspires the soul.”

Boulder Symphony presents its season finale, “Nature’s Voice,” on May 7th at 7 pm at First Presbyterian Church in Boulder. The world premiere of “Everything All At Once” by composer-in-residence Jonathan Sokol, Sibelius’ uplifting 3rd Symphony, and Dvorak’s beautiful cello concerto - performed by talented local cellist Gal Faganel (seen at right) - will usher in a grand end to the season. There will be a preconcert talk at 6:15 pm with Ron Nadel.
