Pathways to Jazz Grants

Online Application now open through June 30, 2017

Read the Guidelines and apply here.

Now in its fourth year, Pathways To Jazz will again award grants to Colorado jazz musicians to support costs associated with producing a recording. Pathways To Jazz exists to provide opportunities for jazz musicians of all ages to succeed in their artistic and educational development by funding qualified jazz musicians to record their music and further their artistry and career. Jazz is an uniquely American art form and it is the program’s objective to see this rich tradition continue for future generations. Pathways to Jazz knows the value that recorded work plays in furthering artistry and supports artists taking this essential step.

A grant coaching session will be offered June 15 from 6:30 -7:30 pm. Pathways to Jazz administrator, Sarah Goodroad, and BCAA Communications Director, Crystal Polis, will answer your questions about filling out the application and explain the requirements for this donor-advised grant. Register for the Coaching Session here
As an individual, organization or business you can support the mission of Pathways To Jazz by making a donation to the project through BCAA.

Who's in the Limelight?

Betsy Tobin

Artistic Director, Now or Never Theatre

Betsy Tobin directs and performs original theatre pieces that integrate forms of puppetry with acting, masks, shadow theatre, and video projection.  For the last 12 years, her company Now or Never Theatre has experimented with different ways of telling stories using layered imagery in larger multi-media productions. She presents her shows in unusual settings with projection on a variety of surfaces. For example, her show Shadows and Journeys, was performed in canyons across the Southwest with shadows on rock walls representing the memories of the land.

Tobin participated in the Art in Embassies program in Guinea in June 2016 and returned to Africa this winter to direct Ombres et Lumieres Sur Conakry (Light & Shadows Over Conakry) in Guinea with local actors, musicians, and dancers. This devised theatre piece contrasted day and night, exploring rituals and scenes from everyday life and dreams and nightmares portrayed with shadow theatre, projections, and the griot (storyteller). She also performed recently at puppetry festivals in Bulgaria and Turkey in Margarita Blush’s show Unfolding.

Her current projects include a video collaboration juxtaposing sculptor George Sherwood’s use of light in his kinetic sculptures with her use of shadow. Betsy is also collaborating with Michael Gunst on a puppet, mask, and video/photography performance inspired by black and white photos from the book Family of Man published by MoMA.
