Boulder City Council Candidate Forum

Shine Restaurant and Gathering Place, 2027 13th St., Boulder
Thursday, October 8 from 5:30 - 8:30 pm

Please RSVP here.

Meet the Candidates for City Council (there are more than a dozen!) and learn their views on the future of Arts & Culture in Boulder. This will be a moderated panel discussion with plenty of time for Q&A.

The City of Boulder has reached a critical point in its ability to maintain its reputation as a cultural destination and home for artists and creative industries. We'll ask the candidates to speak to funding for the Arts and how they will ensure that the Community Cultural Plan is implemented.

Additionally, we’ll provide audience members with index cards to submit their own questions. We’ll have staff sort through them and pull out the best and/or most frequent questions.

Moderated by Jeffrey Nytch, Director, Entrepreneurship Center for Music at University of Colorado, Boulder (right).

Hosted by Boulder Arts Matrix and Boulder County Arts Alliance.

Mapa de los Muertos/Map of the Dead
BCAA Website Featuring Day of the Dead Events

Every year, people around the world gather to celebrate the Mexican holiday of Día De Los Muertos/Day of the Dead and honor friends and family who have passed away. Celebrations traditionally take place between October 31 - November 2nd, but there are events happening throughout October.

BCAA is creating a Map of the Dead on our homepage, pinpointing where all events are taking place. If your organization is planning an event, submit it to the Arts Calendar to be included. The Map of the Dead will also be shared on our Facebook page and twitter.

Who's in the Limelight?
Amanda Berg Wilson, Artistic Director
The Catamounts

Amanda Berg Wilson has directed eight productions for The Catamounts, including God’s Ear (2011 Camera Eye Award, Best Director) and Failure: A Love Story (2013 True West Nomination, Best Director).  She performed as Ellen in There Is A Happiness That Morning Is (2014 True West Award, 2015 Best of Denver Award.) Under her direction, The Catamounts have been the recipients of two 2015, two 2014, and one 2013 Westword Best of Denver awards, six 2011 Daily Camera Eye Awards, and the nominees for three 2012 True West awards. She recently appeared as Sharon in Detroit at Curious Theatre Company.

This month, Wilson is directing The Catamounts' 2015-16 season opener, Spirits to Enforce, by her favorite playwright, Mickle Maher. Spirits will run October 2-17 at the Dairy Center for the Arts. Spirits to Enforce combines Maher’s keen absurdist sense of humor with hyper-literate and heartfelt storytelling.

Spirits opens in what appears to be a mundane call center where a dozen telemarketers work the phones. We realize soon, however, that this is no ordinary office space, but the inside of “a dripping, creaking, rusted submarine.” And those temps? They’re the Fathom Town Enforcers—superheroes in disguise trying to raise money to mount a production of Shakespeare’s beloved “metaphysical revenge comedy,” The TempestInfusing elements of Shakespeare and comic book lore, this genre-bending play is a glorious celebration of the power of art to triumph over evil. Tickets to Spirits are on sale now.
