My name is Kacie Avery and my art is a study in people, perfection, depth, experience and realization. My Art is based on the societal idea that we often look at someone, and want to be them because they appear perfect.  As we know, that impression or perception is twisted. The only reason you look at another person and may think they are perfect is because they are being themselves. The difference and unique parts of everybody are what makes them perfect, it’s what sets you apart from the rest. I believe everybody needs to explore themselves to truly find out who they are, and embrace it no matter what. In a society obsessed by the idea of perfection, my art stands to empower diversity. I do this by creating one of a kind art pieces that I, or any one, could not reproduce.
The piece starts out with natural wood, and then I create several layers of pattern tape stencil painted with an abstract background. By the time I am done there is a very intricate abstract background with some of the wood still showing. As you get closer to the painting the number of different layers becomes more clear but as you stand far away you can’t really tell the depth of it. This I also do because like most people when you get closer you realize the depth of a person that you didn’t know was there at first. Then over the background, I’ll do a free hand drawing with whatever I feel in the moment sometimes a thick marker, sometimes a paint brush, sometimes I’ll use spray paint with no stencil or previous planning.  So, my style reflects our interaction with people, that is, a study in observation, appearance, impression, and depth.
Everything about my art is done in the moment. I don’t plan or take a break till I’m done the piece. For the most part, I can spend anywhere from 4-6 hours straight on a piece. Fresh from Toronto, Canada this will be my first exhibit in the States.
