INSPIRE Arts Week, June 1-11

Lakewood.org/Inspire

Lakewood Heritage, Culture & the Arts will host INSPIRE Arts Week from Thursday, June 1 to Sunday, June 11 with a broad array of free and discounted events presented by art and cultural organizations throughout Lakewood.

The 11-day event showcases the vibrant and rich arts culture that exists in the third largest city in the metro area. Twenty-plus local organizations are participating in INSPIRE, producing more than 30 events.

“Once again, I am in awe of the abundance of arts and cultural offerings available during such a short time frame in Lakewood,” said Lorene Joos, arts programming curator for Lakewood’s Heritage, Culture & the Arts Division. “These organizations all do amazing work year-round, and I am thrilled that they have come together to promote a special mix of programs for the community for this period in June.”

Join us from 5 to 7 p.m. on June 1 at Lakewood Cultural Center for the kickoff event and opening of the 15th annual sculpture exhibit, then stay for "The Planets," a concert with the Lakewood Symphony. Another highlight of INSPIRE Arts Week is First Friday art walks, hosted by 40 West Arts District and Belmar's Block 7. Don't miss Lakewood's free Rockin’ Block Party on Saturday, June 13 at Lakewood Heritage Center, featuring live music by The Hey Lady and a showing of the movie “Labyrinth” under the stars.

Participating organizations include the City of Lakewood, Anam Cara Living Arts Studio and Gallery, the Lakewood Symphony, Jefferson County Public Library, 40 West Arts, Belmar Music on the Plaza, The Edge Theatre, Lakewood Historical Society, Diagnosisart!, Valkarie Gallery and Studio, Lakewood Arts Council, Rockley Music Center, Belmar Block 7, Lakewood Cultural Center, Lakewood Heritage Center, Washington Heights Arts Center, Performance Now Theatre Company, Zikr Dance Ensemble, Lamar Station Crossing, Twigs and Twine, Anne Van Leeuwen Studio and True Colors Studio/Gallery.

INSPIRE Arts Week grew from Lakewood’s participation in a long-term planning and visioning process for arts and culture for the city that was supported by the then Colorado Council on the Arts (now Colorado Creative Industries).

For the complete list of events, visit Lakewood.org/Inspire, or visit the websites of the participating organizations. For more detailed information, please contact Arts Programming Curator Lorene Joos at 303-987-7844 or lorjoo@lakewood.org.

INSPIRE Arts Week is generously supported by the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD), with appreciation to the citizens of the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District, Colorado Creative Industries and Foothills Credit Union.
