Description[Edit This]

Artist Trine Bumiller created "Space Surface Structure Life Form Flow" for the Aerospace Engineering Laboratories at the University of Colorado- Boulder. The work consists of six separate panels, each measuring 4 feet by 2 feet and each exploring a different subject. The first panel shows plankton that has been mapped by satellites from the department. The second panel shows the silhouette of a structure thatallows a telescope to be sent into space. It was designed by a member of the department and now resides at the university. The third painting depicts an image of the height of the oceans, which was mapped using software developed at CU-Boulder. A tree in the courtyard is the subject of the fourth painting, connecting the series back to the campus. The fifth panel illustrates a river system in Boulder, as well as precipitation and vegetation patterns. The final painting is an image of a satellite going out in search of more knowledge. Each panel references the aerospace engineering department and shows ties to the university and community of Boulder. The work was made using layers of transparent oil films on wood.  2001.
