Drawing Nature: Birds of Colorado

Printer-friendly version
Description

Join master teacher April Christenson for art class! She retired in 2013 with 27 years of teaching art in the public schools.  During her years with the public schools her art program won a Kennedy Center National award for excellence in art education.  She has continued teaching and now has over 37 years teaching art.    Her philosophy is if you can sign your name you can learn to draw and she can show you how!

In class we will explore nature using our pencils, focusing on drawing techniques for Colorado birds big and small.  First, we will discover the basic shapes of the bird and tips on how to draw them perching as well as flying. The next step will be drawing the tricky feather patterns and learn to simplify them.  Also included will be information on head and beak shapes for different species of birds. There will be handouts and actual photos of birds provided by the instructor for students to keep as references.  All this in a fun and relaxing setting at pARTiculars Gallery.

Bring to Class: Bring a 9”x12” spiral bound sketchbook and a set of graphite pencils and eraser.  If you have photos of birds bring those too.   This class is for beginners and experienced students.
